LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - "Chronicle" writer Max Landis says a sequel to his breakout hit for Fox is moving forward - just not with him.
"'Chronicle 2' is still probably happening, just not with my involvement as of now. It's a bummer, but there are no real hard feelings," tweeted Landis, who goes by the handle @Uptomyknees.
The found-footage original sci-fi story was a surprise hit for Fox in 2012, making $126.6 million worldwide on a slim $12 million production budget.
Josh Trank made his directorial debut with "Chronicle," which won him the job of Fox's "Fantastic Four" reboot - so he was never expected to come back. No director is assigned to "Chronicle 2" at the moment.
The eccentric Landis took the news well, handling it gracefully on Twitter - where he's never been afraid to speak his mind.
"The truth is, when you're successful as a screenwriter, you have to just take everything in stride. That's like more than half the job," Landis tweeted.
