PHILADELPHIA (AP) ? A row house collapse Monday severely damaged neighboring houses and hurt eight people, including a baby and a critically injured contractor.
The collapse happened shortly after 11 a.m. at an unoccupied home being remodeled in the middle of a south Philadelphia street lined with connected two-story brick homes.
The contractor was working in the basement of the destroyed home, police said. Investigators were trying to figure out what happened, but neighbors reported hearing an explosion.
Bricks showered onto the small street and nearly covered a car parked out front. The houses on either side of the destroyed home were standing but badly damaged, with large sections of their masonry walls gone.
Rescue crews combed through the rubble for victims. They said early Monday afternoon that the search was complete and no one was unaccounted for.
Nearby gas service was turned off and the area evacuated. Residents with nowhere to go were taken to a nearby school, which was being used as a temporary shelter.
"I was in the shower and I thought my house was about to fall down," said Christie Scibblo, a 26-year-old mother of four who lives four houses down from the collapsed home. "I ran outside and I saw a firefighter rescuing an infant."
Scibblo said she also saw firefighters hosing down a man who had been burned.
Daniel Killian, 19, who lives across the narrow street from the house that collapsed, said he smelled gas shortly before the collapse.
Joseph Szymborski, 33, was jolted from his bed when he heard what sounded like an explosion and ran outside to find "the house was in the street."
He ran down the street and said he helped neighbors and rescuers look through the rubble, though he was worried about the remains of the damaged buildings falling on him.
"It's situations like this, you just come together as a neighborhood," he said.
Gas and electrical utility crews were on the scene. Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission spokeswoman Jennifer Kocher said the agency also had two inspectors there but that it was still unclear what happened.
The state regulatory agency would have jurisdiction if the explosion occurred outside the home but not if it occurred inside, Kocher said.
Last month, a collapse at a downtown Philadelphia demolition site killed six people and injured 12 when a large wall fell on an adjacent thrift store. A machinery operator is charged with involuntary manslaughter and a grand jury is weighing whether anyone else should be charged.

(NBC) - When George H.W. Bush ? aka "Bush 41" ? was president he famously gave out awards for his "thousand points of light" as a way to recognize people doing noble volunteer work.
And now that the ex-president has shaved his head in solidarity with a 2-year-old leukemia patient, Patrick, maybe he should give himself one of those points of light.
Patrick is the son of a Secret Service agent, Jon, who is assigned to Bush's security detail in Kennebunkport, Maine.? (Their last names were withheld at the family's request.)
Recently, other members of the security unit started to bare their domes in support of Patrick, and they started to raise money for his treatment.
The 89-year-old Bush and his wife, Barbara, took notice. They had lost their second child, Robin, to leukemia 60 years ago in October at the age of 4.
Members of the Secret Service unit known as Bush Protective Division even launched a website to help raise money to pay Patrick's medical bills: PatricksPals.org. They have also organized a benefit motorcycle run in Kennebunkport, where the Bushes maintain a seaside home.
So, the former president and first lady made a donation, and he even went as far as shaving his head? earlier this week.
A news release sent out of Bush's office raised attention to the effort to help Patrick.

Why make your own way when you can score a free ride? A newly discovered species of parasitoid wasp is the first of its kind seen catching a lift on much larger damselflies.
Andrew Polaszek at London's Natural History Museum and colleagues captured this photo of three of the cheeky wasps in action. The female wasps are clustered around the base of a damselfly's abdomen, waiting for her to descend on water to lay eggs (also shown in the video, top).
The wasps then spring into action: laying their own eggs inside the damselfly's eggs. The wasp larvae later eat the damselfly's unhatched offspring for breakfast. Not the most gracious of thank yous for a free flight.
The species has been appropriately named Hydrophylita emporos ? emporos is Latin for "passenger". It is the fifth member of the genus to be identified, and the first in its genus to be found in the Old World, having been identified in northern Taiwan.
Inevitably, other parasitoid wasps also display anti-social behaviour: one species is known to create zombified insects, for example. However, another variety is useful, to us at least, as it helps to control common human pests. In 2011, a housefly infestation at Edinburgh Zoo was cleared by introducing a parasitoid wasp species native to the UK.

No, a tornado didn't blow through my house, I finally finished unpacking all my craft supplies! I had been putting it off, waiting for the walls to be painted so I could arrange things better. Well the walls aren?t done yet and I had enough digging through boxes when I needed something for a project. So I went through all my supplies, got rid of stuff I won?t use, threw away several bags worth of trash, and gave everything a home so I know where to find it.
In the process of doing all that, I came across several unfinished projects that have been on my to do list for a looooong time.
Like this one. We made these photo blocks, oh I don?t know, about a year ago for a ladies craft night. I didn?t have pictures of my boys at the time so they?ve sat unfinished until now.
It was super simple, the printouts and original idea are found HERE. You just cut 2x4s into squares (approx. 3 1/4?), paint them whatever color you want, then ModPodge the printouts and pictures on. Simple enough. Well, don?t make the mistake I did. When you put the ModPodge under the paper, let that dry first before going over the top with ModPodge. That?s why mine bubbled. I might eventually get around to redoing it, but for now I?m just happy it?s done.It took me so long though, my pictures are outdated. haha. So little and so cute!
Even Andrew looks so young!
Technically I have one more block that I was going to put a picture of me and my husband on, but I printed it too big and wouldn?t fit. So I guess it?s really not completely finished, but close enough for now. haha

The Internet was all aflutter this weekend when it appeared the official Twitter account for Chipotle had been hacked by some funsters out for a web-based joyride. In the span of about an hour the account sent out confusing updates ranging from ?Mittens13 password leave? to ?end twitter? to the succinct, yet extremely accurate ?twitter,? making many people think Chipotle had suffered the same fate Burger King did back in February. In reality, however, they just took a page out of MTV?s playbook.
That?s right. Say it with me. FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE.
Chipotle appeared to be the latest brand to have its Twitter account hacked on Sunday when its main account, @ChipotleTweets, posted a series of confusing and seemingly random tweets over the course of an hour. Now, the company has come forward and admitted that it faked having its account hacked as part of a publicity stunt tied to its 20th anniversary promotional campaign.
?We thought that people would pay attention, that it would cut through people?s attention and make them talk, and it did that,? Chris Arnold, a Chipotle representative, told Mashable in an interview. ?It was definitely thought out: We didn?t want it to be harmful or hateful or controversial.? [Mashable]
God this is so dumb. So super dumb. Huge corporations are now pretending that they?ve been ?hacked? as some sort of guerrilla marketing campaign. That is actually a thing that is happening now. Think long and hard about that. Some dude in a $1,000 suit instructed his underling to instruct one of his underlings to come up with tweets ? non-harmful, non-hateful, uncontroversial tweets ? to make it look like someone had committed a felony and hijacked their social media presence. That?s like one step short of having an employee throw a trashcan through your front window to see if it gets your store on the news.
I bet the tweets even went through a focus group. Really, I bet they did. ?Would a tweet from a corporate account that read only ?end twitter? make you think the account had been hacked? Press 1 for yes and 2 for no.? I bet someone actually said that. Then I bet the person looked at the results, nodded silently, and made a notation on his or her clipboard like it wasn?t the single corniest thing a person has ever done.
Ugh.

CAIRO (AP) ? Egypt's army chief has called on Egyptians to hold mass demonstrations to voice their support for the military to put an end to "violence" and "terrorism."
Gen. Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi, who ousted elected Islamist President Mohammed Morsi on July 3, said Wednesday he wants Egyptians to take to the streets on Friday in support of a campaign by the army and police against "violence" and "terrorism."
It was a thinly veiled reference to stepped up attacks blamed on suspected Islamic militants against security forces in the Sinai Peninsula and the deadly clashes between opponents and supporters of Morsi that have killed dozens.

Drinks giant Diageo has been given the go-ahead from Chinese authorities to buy out a joint venture in the fast-growing economy for about ?233 million.
The maker of Johnnie Walker whisky and Smirnoff vodka previously owned 53 per cent of SJF Holdco, but will now spend about ?233m to acquire the remaining 47 per cent and convert the business into a wholly-owned enterprise.
The deal will see Diageo?s stake in Shanghai-listed Chinese white spirits ? or ?bai jiu? ? maker Sichuan Shuijingfang rise from 210.5 per cent to 39.71 per cent.
Gilbert Ghostine, president of Diageo Asia Pacific, said: ?This is a milestone in the journey we began with our partners six years ago.
?As the controlling shareholder in Shuijingfang, Diageo will continue to work with the senior Chinese management to build Shuijingfang into the leading international bai jiu brand. I have every confidence in the long-term future of the bai jiu category in China.?
Shore Capital analyst Phil Carroll said: ?This represents positive news in our view in relation to Diageo?s strategy of increasing its emerging market exposure albeit the timing from a Chinese market perspective is at a point where the gifting restrictions have put pressure on ultra premium spirit sales as well as a general slowdown in the Chinese economy relative to recent years.
?That said, it has taken Diageo six years to get to this point in the transaction and it is looking at developing assets such as SJF on a medium to long term basis. Given the clear high barriers to entry for such assets, we believe this deal should position Diageo well for the future.?

WASHINGTON (AP) ? The Food and Drug Administration is cracking down on more than a dozen companies that market illegal treatments for diabetes, ranging from bogus dietary supplements to prescription drugs sold online without a prescription.
All of the products aim to cash in on the country's diabetes epidemic, which affects nearly 26 million Americans. Regulators worry that consumers who buy such unapproved products could put off getting legitimate medical care, which could exacerbate heart disease, kidney failure and other deadly complications.
The FDA sent warning letters to 15 companies, both in the U.S. and abroad, ordering them to stop selling diabetes treatments which violate U.S. drug laws.
Three of the products targeted are marketed as "natural" supplements, but actually contain unlisted pharmaceutical ingredients. For example, Diexi, which is sold as a traditional Indian "herbal formula," actually contains metformin, the most common prescription drug used to treat diabetes. The product is sold by Amrutam Life Care, of Surat, India.
"Consumers should exercise caution before using products claiming to be herbal or all-natural alternatives to FDA-approved prescription drugs," the agency said in a statement Tuesday. "These products should be considered unsafe and should not be used."
Other products include genuine dietary supplements that make unproven claims to treat or prevent diabetes. For example, Diabetes Daily Care is a capsule-based supplement containing cinnamon extract and other herbs. Its manufacturer, Nature's Health Supply Inc., claims it "safely and effectively improves sugar metabolism."
Under U.S. law, only FDA-approved medicines are permitted to make claims for treating or preventing disease.
Other companies targeted by the FDA run online pharmacies that sell prescription drugs for diabetes without a prescription. The FDA issued a warning letter to www.bestcheapmedsonline.com for marketing unapproved versions of diabetes drugs like Januvia, from Merck & Co. Inc.
The FDA warns patients against buying prescription medications on the Internet. Only 3 percent of online pharmacies actually comply with all U.S. pharmacy laws, according to a review by the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy.
People with diabetes are unable to properly break down carbohydrates, either because their bodies do not produce enough insulin or because they've become resistant to the hormone, which controls blood sugar levels. These patients face higher risks of heart attacks, kidney problems, blindness and other serious complications.
Many diabetics require multiple drugs to control their blood sugar levels.
The U.S. market for prescription diabetes drugs is the largest in the world, with sales of $22 billion last year. Sales have ballooned more than 60 percent in the last four years from $13.6 billion in 2008, according to health data firm, IMS Health.
The FDA said it has not received any reports of injury or illness connected with the products, but is taking action as a precautionary measure.
The FDA sent the warning letters to the companies last week, but posted them online Tuesday morning. The letters gives each company 15 business days to reply and explain how they will come into compliance with U.S. law. FDA warning letters are not legally binding, but the agency can take companies to court if they are ignored.

LONDON (Reuters) - Prince William and his wife Kate gave the world its first glimpse of their new baby on Tuesday when they left hospital to a barrage of camera flashes with the boy who is third in line to the British throne.
Cheered by well-wishers, the couple waved and took turns to hold their son, wrapped tightly in a white blanket with only the top of his head and his hands visible.
"We are still working on a name, so we will have that as soon as we can," William told reporters, adding that he could not be happier.
"He's got her looks, thankfully," he added, glancing at his wife. Kate, wearing a pale blue dress with white polka dots, brushed aside the compliment, saying "No, no, I'm not sure about that."
"It's such a special time," she added as onlookers hung out of the windows of surrounding buildings for a better view. "Any parent will probably know what this feeling is like."
The couple followed tradition by giving the public the first sight of the baby on the steps of the hospital as they left - just as William's father Prince Charles and late mother, Princess Diana, did with him.
A relaxed William laughed as he confirmed he had already changed his first nappy (diaper) and joked that he would remind his son "of his tardiness when he is a bit older", because the infant had kept them, and the public, waiting longer than expected.
"He's got a good pair of lungs on him, that's for sure. He's a big boy, he's quite heavy," William added.
WEEKS OF ANTICIPATION
Kate, 31, gave birth to the couple's first child on Monday afternoon, ending weeks of feverish anticipation about the arrival, and all three spent the night in the hospital - St Mary's in west London.
Their baby cried and wiggled his fingers as William carried him in a car seat to a Range Rover before driving his family to nearby Kensington Palace, his childhood home.
Kate's parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, were the first visitors to see the couple and their new child. Asked if she would reveal the name or had made any suggestions, Kate's mother said: "Absolutely not."
Apart from the media, the event attracted hundreds of well-wishers from the public.
"We're here to witness history, where a future monarch has been born," said Maria Scott, a housewife who had camped outside the hospital since Saturday.
The baby is third in line to the throne after grandfather Charles and William, 31, and pushes the fun-loving Prince Harry, William's brother, into fourth place.
"I'm thrilled," Charles said. His second wife, Camilla, spoke of a "wonderfully uplifting moment for the country", saying Charles would make a "brilliant" grandfather.
Congratulations flooded in from around the world after the birth, which was followed moment-by-moment by global media.
WRAPPED IN THE FLAG
It fuels a new wave of popularity for the House of Windsor inspired by the younger royals, William and Harry.
Support for the royal family dipped after their mother Diana's death in a car crash in Paris in 1997, a year after her divorce from Charles, as the family's handling of the aftermath prompted accusations that they were out of touch.
But last year's celebrations of Queen Elizabeth's 60th year on the throne showed support for the monarchy at a record high.
Hordes of TV crews, photographers and royal fans wrapped in British flags camped outside the hospital for the first glimpse of the baby, to be called the Prince of Cambridge.
To mark the birth, the Royal Artillery fired a 41-gun salute at London's Green Park and 62 rounds were fired at the Tower of London. The bells of Westminster Abbey, where the couple married in April 2011, rang for three hours.
William and Kate, who met when they were students at university in Scotland a decade ago, are officially known as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
The couple, who have been living in a cottage in Wales where William is based as a Royal Air Force helicopter pilot, will eventually live with their baby at Apartment 1A in Kensington Palace.
Royal experts said the baby would now be taken out of the public glare.
"Having a baby is a very private moment, and they are a private couple, so the next time we see the baby will be the official photo, and that could be weeks," said Joe Little, managing editor of Majesty magazine.

CUYAHOGA FALLS ? Valley Savings Bank Sports Complex is quickly becoming Avon?s home away from home.
Two days after the Under-11 Little League team evened its tournament record against Cuyahoga Falls North, the Under-10 team went on the road to fight off elimination ? and the rain ? and came up with an 11-7 victory over North.
The teams will play for the district championship at Veterans Park in Avon tonight at 6. The Under-10 team hopes the trend of following their older counterparts continues. The Under-11 team won the District 3 championship 14-4 Saturday.
?The biggest part about our team is they don?t like to quit,? Avon coach Ron Stitchick said. ?Even when they?re down by three or four runs they know what needs to be done and they get it done.?
The teams traded leads five times and scored runs in six consecutive half-innings. Karl Wearsch proved to be the difference for Avon. First he drove in three runs with a triple in the top of the fifth that put Avon up 9-7.
Then he used that momentum to shake off a rocky fourth inning on the mound to face just six batters in the final two innings.
?I was really nervous because even though we were up I was still nervous because they could always come back,? said Wearsch, who was 3-for-4 with four RBIs and a run scored. ?I?m happy my team went through it and they won it for us. We had really good hitting today and smart baserunning.?
Nerves played a part in North?s ability to retake the lead. Two runs scored off wild pitches from Avon starter Jason Clay. Two of the three runs he allowed were walks, the other a hit batter.
?We?re talking about 10-year-olds here,? Stitchick said. ?They get very heady and they?re nervous. Sometimes it takes them a couple of pitches to settle in and once they settle in they know what I need them to do.?
Clay limited the damage to three runs and struck out five.
Wearsch had his shaky moment in the fourth inning when he allowed four earned runs on five hits, giving North the lead back at 7-6. But once he settled in, North couldn?t touch him. He also finished with two strikeouts.
?We just kept cheering on each other, which I think really helped,? Avon catcher Ryan Rosfelder said. ?We were still all motivated that we could win this. If we win the next game at our home, we go to state, which would be really nice.?
Rosfelder scored three times and provided some insurance in his only RBI of the game off a towering shot to right field in the top of the sixth, nearly giving him an inside-the-park home run. He scored during the next at-bat off a passed ball.
Leadoff hitter Tyler Louth also scored three runs for Avon and had three hits in five at-bats.

Sony actually has a lot of great screen technology. Triluminos, WhiteMagic, and Super Top Emission(Oled Displays) is just a few great display technology that Sony have.
the only problem is in some handsets like Xperia Z they use crappy display.
but that doesn?t mean they can?t make high quality display, now with Xperia ZU the situation has changed.

Sony product currently has a fairly competitive price range, for example Xperia SP has a cheaper price range in comparison with S4 Mini.
Even in some places you can buy Xperia ZR or ZL with the same price range with the S4 Mini.Note 3 is not going to be cheap because when compared to S4,
Note 3 will have a bigger screen and battery, better chipset, OIS, and a stylus. all of it will make the price of Note 3 to be expensive.

The trend is more tablety the thing the more reasonable the price tag, the Ascend Mate costs $400. Sony must take us for a fool thinking they can ask $800 for a sorta-7" tablet.

IT was described as a quintessential English summer fete and it certainly lived up to the billing.
Hundreds of people headed to Wonston, near Winchester, on Saturday (July 13) for the annual church fete, including Winchester MP Steve Brine who officially opened it. It featured a performance by international singer Lisa Faye, a miniature steam train, duck races, croquet, face painting, bouncy castles and a number of other traditional events.
Bettina Betton, who leads the organising committee, said she was delighted with what the fete had to offer in the grounds of Old House, Wonston.
She said: ?Last year was a washout but it couldn?t be more different this year. We have a fantastic, intimate location, which is down by the river for duck races, the children are putting on their own puppet show and we have Lisa Faye singing with the new village choir the 5678s.
?It?s a new choir and they are perfect and we are thrilled they are here today.?
Mrs Betton said the fete was a key village fundraiser for Holy Trinity Church, which needs to raise ?30,000 per year to survive.
She said: ?This is a big chunk of that ?30,000 and usually we raise between ?5-?7,000 so hopefully we can do something similar this time as it will be a big help.? Mr Brine added: ?It?s an absolute pleasure to be back at this fete. Every time I?m here it?s been beautiful weather like this so you must be doing something right!?

Captain James McAuliffe, of the Sanford, Florida, Police Department, confirmed that the evidence from the murder case of Trayvon Martin will not be released as originally planned. The evidence in question includes the gun used by George Zimmerman to shoot and kill the 17-year-old, the hooded sweatshirt Martin was wearing, and the bag of Skittles he was carrying at the time of his death.
The hold was placed on the evidence by the Justice Department, and McAuliffe said in an email, ?Until that hold is lifted the evidence will remain secured ? They have an investigation they are conducting separate from the criminal trial.?
US Attorney General Eric Holder, speaking at the annual NAACP convention in Orlando, on Tuesday said, ?I am concerned about this case and as we confirmed last spring, the Justice Department has an open investigation into it.?

LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - "Chronicle" writer Max Landis says a sequel to his breakout hit for Fox is moving forward - just not with him.
"'Chronicle 2' is still probably happening, just not with my involvement as of now. It's a bummer, but there are no real hard feelings," tweeted Landis, who goes by the handle @Uptomyknees.
The found-footage original sci-fi story was a surprise hit for Fox in 2012, making $126.6 million worldwide on a slim $12 million production budget.
Josh Trank made his directorial debut with "Chronicle," which won him the job of Fox's "Fantastic Four" reboot - so he was never expected to come back. No director is assigned to "Chronicle 2" at the moment.
The eccentric Landis took the news well, handling it gracefully on Twitter - where he's never been afraid to speak his mind.
"The truth is, when you're successful as a screenwriter, you have to just take everything in stride. That's like more than half the job," Landis tweeted.

But even if Russia grants Snowden asylum, his presence still complicates relations with the US.
By Fred Weir,?Correspondent / July 17, 2013
EnlargeRussia's Federal Migration Service is processing Edward Snowden's hand-scrawled application for temporary asylum in Russia, and the former National Security Agency contractor's Russian lawyer says he might be able to walk out of Sheremetyevo airport ? where he's been holed up for over three weeks ? holding Russian refugee papers within a few days.

"The question of giving him temporary asylum won't take more than a week. I think that in the near future he will have the possibility to leave the Sheremetyevo transit zone," the independent Interfax agency quoted the lawyer, Anatoly Kucherena, as saying.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, who's treated Mr. Snowden's forced presence in the Sheremetyevo transit area as an "unwelcome gift," also appeared resigned to having the former CIA employee as a guest of Russia for the foreseeable future in remarks made to reporters during a visit to Siberia Wednesday.
"I won?t give you any details. We have warned Snowden that any activity of his that could damage US-Russian relations is unacceptable for us," Russian news agencies quoted Mr. Putin as saying.
"As I understand it, Snowden didn?t aim to spend his whole life in Russia. I don?t understand how a young man decided to do what he did, but it?s his choice," Putin added.
Besides the fact that the former KGB spy probably detests everything Snowden stands for, Putin is under considerable pressure from the Obama administration to hand him back to the US.
On Tuesday, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney hinted that failure to satisfactorily resolve the Snowden affair might result in "long-term problems" for US-Russia relations.
Moscow and Washington have recently been "engaging on a number of important issues, both economic and security related issues, and we want to continue that relationship unimpeded by this issue," Mr. Carney said. If Russia were to turn Snowden over, or at least expel him from the country, that would "resolve this situation that they have been dealing with now for three weeks," he added.
Carney didn't spell out the nature of the "problems" Snowden's continued presence in Russia might generate. But it's not hard to guess what they might be.
President Obama is slated to visit Russia in September to attend a G20 summit in St. Petersburg, and both sides have pinned hopes for a warming of the deepest diplomatic chill since the cold war on planned sideline meetings between Obama and Putin. It's hard to predict a positive outcome for that if Snowden is still being harbored in Russia at that point.
Another vulnerable point for Russia ? where memories of the US-led boycott of the 1980 Moscow Olympic Games are still painfully alive ? could be a similar move to shun the upcoming Sochi Winter Games, into which Russia has invested over $50 billion and much Russian prestige, over the Snowden issue.
That very threat was explicitly floated Tuesday by US Sen. Lindsey Graham (R) of South Carolina, who told NBC news that the US should consider leading a Sochi boycott to let the Russians know that "enough is enough" if they won't hand Snowden over.
"I love the Olympics, but I hate what the Russian government is doing throughout the world," Senator Graham is quoted as saying. "If they give asylum to a person who I believe has committed treason against the United States, that's taking it to a new level."
There seems little doubt that Putin is sensitive to such talk. In his remarks to journalists Wednesday he reiterated that Russia would take steps to ensure that Snowden will inflict no harm on the US during his stay in Russia, and he seemed to dismiss the whole matter as a minor tiff between spy agencies that shouldn't be allowed to interfere with serious politics.
"International relations, in my opinion, are more important than the special services' hassles," the official RIA-Novosti quoted Putin as saying.
In a lengthy interview with the Kremlin-funded English-language TV network Russia Today, which prefers to be called RT, Snowden's lawyer Mr. Kucherena said that his client had told him that Putin's demand that he do no further damage to US interests was "attainable."
"I believe that [Snowden] will be true to his word," said Kucherena, who has met three times with the ex-NSA contractor in Sheremetyevo, and says he questioned him deeply about his motives, beliefs, and intentions.
"From his replies, I can understand that he is an adamant human rights activist and when he says that his past employment duties blatantly violated universal human rights, he says it sincerely. Because he, unlike someone else, understands that he used certain methods to spy on people, to read their communication."
Kucherena said Snowden refuses to return to the US because he does not believe he will be treated humanely or get a fair trial.
"He fears for his life and well being.... [H]e is also afraid of torture, and that he could get executed. And what he says sounds quite convincing, because the US still administers capital punishment and torture," he said.
Political asylum in Russia would provide Snowden with documents enabling him to live in Russia and enjoy many privileges of a Russian citizen, and be renewable annually, he added.
"I?m not eliminating [the possibility that he might remain permanently] because he told me that he would like to stay in Russia. [In this case] he will become a citizen with all rights and privileges," Kucherena told RT.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Devin Mesoraco hit a two-run homer in the 11th inning and the Cincinnati Reds snapped a three-game losing streak with a 6-4 victory over the AL West-leading Texas Rangers on Saturday night.
Mesoraco was 0 for 4 with three strikeouts before his 380-foot homer into the left-field seats off Kyle McClellan (0-1), which came right after Todd Frazier was hit by a pitch to start the 11th.
Cincinnati had lost six of seven and was coming off consecutive shutout losses before Shin-Soo Choo homered on the first pitch of the game.
J.J. Hoover (1-5) got the last two outs in the 10th, even after a walk and a hit. Aroldis Chapman worked the 11th for his 20th save in 23 chances.
The Reds had also lost five straight interleague games.
