Captain James McAuliffe, of the Sanford, Florida, Police Department, confirmed that the evidence from the murder case of Trayvon Martin will not be released as originally planned. The evidence in question includes the gun used by George Zimmerman to shoot and kill the 17-year-old, the hooded sweatshirt Martin was wearing, and the bag of Skittles he was carrying at the time of his death.
The hold was placed on the evidence by the Justice Department, and McAuliffe said in an email, ?Until that hold is lifted the evidence will remain secured ? They have an investigation they are conducting separate from the criminal trial.?
US Attorney General Eric Holder, speaking at the annual NAACP convention in Orlando, on Tuesday said, ?I am concerned about this case and as we confirmed last spring, the Justice Department has an open investigation into it.?

LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - "Chronicle" writer Max Landis says a sequel to his breakout hit for Fox is moving forward - just not with him.
"'Chronicle 2' is still probably happening, just not with my involvement as of now. It's a bummer, but there are no real hard feelings," tweeted Landis, who goes by the handle @Uptomyknees.
The found-footage original sci-fi story was a surprise hit for Fox in 2012, making $126.6 million worldwide on a slim $12 million production budget.
Josh Trank made his directorial debut with "Chronicle," which won him the job of Fox's "Fantastic Four" reboot - so he was never expected to come back. No director is assigned to "Chronicle 2" at the moment.
The eccentric Landis took the news well, handling it gracefully on Twitter - where he's never been afraid to speak his mind.
"The truth is, when you're successful as a screenwriter, you have to just take everything in stride. That's like more than half the job," Landis tweeted.

But even if Russia grants Snowden asylum, his presence still complicates relations with the US.
By Fred Weir,?Correspondent / July 17, 2013
RTR TV shows a document purportedly written by Edward Snowden that reads, 'To: Federal Migration Service of the Russian Federation, From: Edward Joseph Snowden, United States citizen APPLICATION I hereby request you considering the possibility of granting to me temporary asylum in the Russian Federation. 15 July 2013.'
RTR TV/AP
EnlargeRussia's Federal Migration Service is processing Edward Snowden's hand-scrawled application for temporary asylum in Russia, and the former National Security Agency contractor's Russian lawyer says he might be able to walk out of Sheremetyevo airport ? where he's been holed up for over three weeks ? holding Russian refugee papers within a few days.

"The question of giving him temporary asylum won't take more than a week. I think that in the near future he will have the possibility to leave the Sheremetyevo transit zone," the independent Interfax agency quoted the lawyer, Anatoly Kucherena, as saying.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, who's treated Mr. Snowden's forced presence in the Sheremetyevo transit area as an "unwelcome gift," also appeared resigned to having the former CIA employee as a guest of Russia for the foreseeable future in remarks made to reporters during a visit to Siberia Wednesday.
"I won?t give you any details. We have warned Snowden that any activity of his that could damage US-Russian relations is unacceptable for us," Russian news agencies quoted Mr. Putin as saying.
"As I understand it, Snowden didn?t aim to spend his whole life in Russia. I don?t understand how a young man decided to do what he did, but it?s his choice," Putin added.
Besides the fact that the former KGB spy probably detests everything Snowden stands for, Putin is under considerable pressure from the Obama administration to hand him back to the US.
On Tuesday, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney hinted that failure to satisfactorily resolve the Snowden affair might result in "long-term problems" for US-Russia relations.
Moscow and Washington have recently been "engaging on a number of important issues, both economic and security related issues, and we want to continue that relationship unimpeded by this issue," Mr. Carney said. If Russia were to turn Snowden over, or at least expel him from the country, that would "resolve this situation that they have been dealing with now for three weeks," he added.
Carney didn't spell out the nature of the "problems" Snowden's continued presence in Russia might generate. But it's not hard to guess what they might be.
President Obama is slated to visit Russia in September to attend a G20 summit in St. Petersburg, and both sides have pinned hopes for a warming of the deepest diplomatic chill since the cold war on planned sideline meetings between Obama and Putin. It's hard to predict a positive outcome for that if Snowden is still being harbored in Russia at that point.
Another vulnerable point for Russia ? where memories of the US-led boycott of the 1980 Moscow Olympic Games are still painfully alive ? could be a similar move to shun the upcoming Sochi Winter Games, into which Russia has invested over $50 billion and much Russian prestige, over the Snowden issue.
That very threat was explicitly floated Tuesday by US Sen. Lindsey Graham (R) of South Carolina, who told NBC news that the US should consider leading a Sochi boycott to let the Russians know that "enough is enough" if they won't hand Snowden over.
"I love the Olympics, but I hate what the Russian government is doing throughout the world," Senator Graham is quoted as saying. "If they give asylum to a person who I believe has committed treason against the United States, that's taking it to a new level."
There seems little doubt that Putin is sensitive to such talk. In his remarks to journalists Wednesday he reiterated that Russia would take steps to ensure that Snowden will inflict no harm on the US during his stay in Russia, and he seemed to dismiss the whole matter as a minor tiff between spy agencies that shouldn't be allowed to interfere with serious politics.
"International relations, in my opinion, are more important than the special services' hassles," the official RIA-Novosti quoted Putin as saying.
In a lengthy interview with the Kremlin-funded English-language TV network Russia Today, which prefers to be called RT, Snowden's lawyer Mr. Kucherena said that his client had told him that Putin's demand that he do no further damage to US interests was "attainable."
"I believe that [Snowden] will be true to his word," said Kucherena, who has met three times with the ex-NSA contractor in Sheremetyevo, and says he questioned him deeply about his motives, beliefs, and intentions.
"From his replies, I can understand that he is an adamant human rights activist and when he says that his past employment duties blatantly violated universal human rights, he says it sincerely. Because he, unlike someone else, understands that he used certain methods to spy on people, to read their communication."
Kucherena said Snowden refuses to return to the US because he does not believe he will be treated humanely or get a fair trial.
"He fears for his life and well being.... [H]e is also afraid of torture, and that he could get executed. And what he says sounds quite convincing, because the US still administers capital punishment and torture," he said.
Political asylum in Russia would provide Snowden with documents enabling him to live in Russia and enjoy many privileges of a Russian citizen, and be renewable annually, he added.
"I?m not eliminating [the possibility that he might remain permanently] because he told me that he would like to stay in Russia. [In this case] he will become a citizen with all rights and privileges," Kucherena told RT.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Devin Mesoraco hit a two-run homer in the 11th inning and the Cincinnati Reds snapped a three-game losing streak with a 6-4 victory over the AL West-leading Texas Rangers on Saturday night.
Mesoraco was 0 for 4 with three strikeouts before his 380-foot homer into the left-field seats off Kyle McClellan (0-1), which came right after Todd Frazier was hit by a pitch to start the 11th.
Cincinnati had lost six of seven and was coming off consecutive shutout losses before Shin-Soo Choo homered on the first pitch of the game.
J.J. Hoover (1-5) got the last two outs in the 10th, even after a walk and a hit. Aroldis Chapman worked the 11th for his 20th save in 23 chances.
The Reds had also lost five straight interleague games.

Charlie Wilson had one excited background singer and dancer supporting him: Justin Timberlake.
The pop star took a backseat to the soul singer at Sunday's BET Awards, joining Wilson onstage for an energetic medley of his solo and Gap Band hits.
Stevie Wonder, Jamie Foxx, Pharrell, Snoop Dogg and India.Arie were also part of the tribute to 60-year-old Wilson, who earned the lifetime achievement award.
"Charlie Wilson is soul music. His impact colors the work of many artists, which is basically my nice way of saying I and a lot of other artists have stolen from him," Timberlake said when presenting Wilson the award.
Wilson's lively stage presence was the arguably the night's top moment, though others were on fire.
Nicki Minaj picked up her fourth consecutive win for best female hip-hop artist.
"Every time I win it's a humbling experience," she said. "My fans are amazing people."
Minaj performed with Chris Brown, who opened the awards show with a medley of new songs. BET couldn't bleep some of the rapper's expletives ? much like the awards show last year. Expletives from Wayne Brady, Erykah Badu and the singers who performed with R. Kelly slipped, too.
Mariah Carey was angelic as she belted her latest hit, "#Beautiful," with help from Miguel and Young Jeezy, and an excited R. Kelly sang snippets of a dozen of his hits. An energetic Robin Thicke was joined by Pharrell and T.I. when he sang his international No. 1 hit, "Blurred Lines."
Host Chris Tucker sang and danced too ? in tribute to Michael Jackson.
Miguel won the night's first award, best male R&B pop artist, beating out Brown, Usher, Justin Timberlake and Bruno Mars.
"I got to really give it up to all the other guys in this category," said the singer, who performed for third time Sunday when he joined J. Cole onstage.
Don Cheadle presented Miguel with the award, and dedicated the night to the ailing Nelson Mandela.
"We want to take a moment and send our prayers and thoughts to a man who literally changed the world," he said. "This evening we would like to offer prayers and support and hope to the extraordinary Nelson Mandela and his family."
Jamie Foxx, wearing a shirt that featured a picture of Trayvon Martin, won best actor, and Olympic gold medalist Gabrielle Douglas won sportswoman of the year and the youngstars award.
Kendrick Lamar, who performed with Badu, won best new artist and best male hip-hop artist.
"Most importantly to my little home boys and my home girls back in the city, you looking at me on TV right now, I came up in that same county building, food stamps, welfare section eight ... this is living proof that you can do anything you put your mind to," said Lamar, who is from Compton.
He, along with 2 Chainz, are the second most nominated acts behind Drake, who is up for 12 honors, including five nominations for video of the year, which has 10 nominees.
His own hits ? "Started from the Bottom" and "HYFR" ? are up for the top prize, as well as his guest appearances on 2 Chainz's "No Lie," A$AP Rocky's "(Expletive) Problems" and Lamar's "Poetic Justice." Other video of the year nominees are Justin Timberlake's "Suit & Tie," Rihanna's "Diamonds," ''Adorn" by Miguel, Kanye West's "Mercy" and "Thrift Shop" by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis.
Timberlake, Drake, Lamar, Rocky, Miguel and Rihanna will compete for the fan-voted viewer's choice award. Dwyane Wade, who recently won the NBA Finals with the Miami Heat, will receive the humanitarian award.
